Work Out Loud: February 20-24—Come Share What You’re Busy Working on + Hoping to Accomplish This Week! 🐝

Hi everyone! Apologies for the delay in getting this week’s Work Out Loud thread up—I’ve been playing catch up on work after being out for President’s Day… anywho, I hope y’all are having a great week so far!

This Week’s Featured Tweet:

In case you missed the news: John Picozzi (@johnpicozzi), Pantheon Hero and Solution Architect at EPAM Systems, is our Community Champion of the Month for February 2023! Read our forum announcement to learn more about John and the impact he’s making in our community and in open source.

Now, let’s get right to it! For those of you who are new here: Work Out Loud is a weekly opportunity to share what we’re working on, who we’re meeting with, and what we’re doing in our free time. There are no rules here—share whatever you’d like!

Welcome New Members!
Welcome to our newest community members: @aivaras, @reed, and @AndyD. We’re so excited to have you here! You’re cordially invited to participate in our Work Out Loud thread, this week and every week. :grinning: Let us know where in the world you are! :world_map:

This Week, I Am…
:trophy: Working on emails, the website design brief, and other comms announcing our 2023 Best in WebOps Awards winners! Please note: Submissions for the Best in WebOps Awards have closed. If you applied to the awards, you’ll be notified later this month on the status of your submission.

:rocket: Putting together comms for the rollout of something exciting for our community! Stay tuned for more information on this.

What I am Most Excited About…
:rainbow_flag: We just got a new Exec Sponsor for Pantheon’s LGBTQIA+ ERG and its action-oriented extension (Pridetheon and Pridetheon Impact) after two months of not having one! I’m definitely excited to plan some more programs for my fellow LGBTQIA+ Pantheors (and our allies!).

Your turn! See below for a few questions to get you started, and feel free to share as little or as much as you’d like.

  • What are you working on this week?
  • Do you have any recent big wins you want to share?
  • What are you learning and/or reading right now?
  • Is there anything our community can help you with?

This week, I’m nominating @sauter-direkt, @MMoniz, @andrewwilliams, @tkool, @dietric, and @shannon.cordes (but really, anyone can participate!) to share! Feel free to chime in by clicking “Reply” below, and then, nominate others. :open_hands:

Happy Thursday everyone!

  • What are you working on this week?
Finally unwinding from Florida DrupalCamp, so next camp to help organize, Drupal Camp Asheville! That will be July 7-9, inperson

  • Do you have any recent big wins you want to share?
I was accepted as a feature speaker to a couple of events, talking about accessibility and contributing back to open source. (My two big passions, so it make it more exciting)

  • Is there anything our community can help you with?
Opensource.com is gearing up for Git’s anniversary, so if anyone has a Git story, how-to / tutorial that they would like to have published, let me know!

Hello all! This week I’ve been working on creating a new theme for my Drupal websites using the new Drupal theme starterkit. I love building themes and this is the first real test of the design system I’ve been slowly building over the past several months.

The other excitement is I got a new computer! I’m upgrading from an early 2013 MacBook Pro to a 2020 MacBook Air. I forget how much work it is to set up a new computer (fonts, fonts, fonts) but my gosh! what an improvement over my old machine.

Hey y’all

This week I’ve been busy working on the Pantheon Decoupled Preview plugin for WordPress, specifically updating the code to meet (or beat) generally-accepted WordPress coding standards and best practices in preparation of publishing it to the WordPress.org plugins repository.

I also appeared on the Pantheon Livestream yesterday to talk about WordPress and the Pantheon CDN (Content Delivery Network) and how they work together.

We got a ton of snow dumped on us Tuesday night (6-12" was expected, I don’t know how much we actually got but some places nearby got ~2’), so we had a low turnout last night for D&D which gave me an excuse to run a non-D&D RPG I’ve been wanting to try out called Stealing Stories for the Devil which is basically a heist role-playing game where the players have the ability to “lie to reality.” Despite having never actually run/played this game, and being a little rusty on the rules since it’s been a couple weeks since I read through the books, everyone had a really good time and enjoyed the heist.

WOOOHOO late to the party here!

@vee.vopham congrats on the new exec sponsor for the LGBTQIA+ ERG :rainbow_flag: I know this is near + dear to your heart! And you have been working so hard to build a psychological safe space for our Pantheors. True rockstar! :guitar:

@volkswagenchick YAYYYY on your recently accepted sessions! You are such a wonderful advocate for open source. Truly inspirational, let me tell you!

Opensource.com is gearing up for Git’s anniversary, so if anyone has a Git story, how-to / tutorial that they would like to have published, let me know!

 I will share this in our “open sorcery” channel internally to see if anyone can contribute!

@ap2963 WOOOHOO new computer, coming in hot! :computer: There are a lot of cool things the newer Macs can do! How are you liking the Drupal starterkit!?

@chris.reynolds Darn, I missed you on the livestream! Shamelessly, I don’t know much about the the Pantheon Decoupled Preview plugin for WordPress so I need to do some creeping here :eyes: Ohhh, how I wish I had a dev brain somedays! Work aside, SNOW DAYSSSS are the best! I live in Arizona :cactus: now but growing up in PA I couldn’t wait for winter. No school, sledding for days + lots of hot cocoa!

Ohhh and I guess I should share what I am working on :speak_no_evil:

This Week I Worked On…

  • LOTS of pre-launch work leading up to something reallllly exciting for you all! :star2: Seriously have been waiting for this moment for nearly 4 years, so my heart is really happy! But also, really busy! That said @vee.vopham , @katie.richards + I are excited to share the big news with you all very soon! And selfishly, I cannot wait to go back to having more meet + greet chats with new community members since I haven’t had much time to do that as of recent.

Here is My Big Win :trophy:

  • For those of you who don’t know, I lost my mom in August of 2022 to COPD + Lung Cancer. She was my best friend. Last weekend I ran a half marathon in Austin, TX in her memory :heavy_heart_exclamation: I was supposed to push her in this race, so this was really near + dear to my heart. It’s moments like this were I remember WHY we are all here. And the little stressors in life honestly hold so little merit. :running_man:
