Gift of Open Source 2020 - Learn about Drupal Contribution on Friday December 4

One of our goals for the Gift of Open Source this year is to lower the barrier for contributing to open source projects for new contributors (like me!). The Pantheon Community team has partnered with AmyJune Hineline (@volkswagenchick) of Kanopi who offered to run some workshops during Gift of Open Source. AmyJune speaks at a LOT of community events in the WordPress and Drupal spaces with a main focus on making participation in open source accessible to everyone. AmyJune will be presenting throughout Gift of Open Source using training materials aimed to help those that are new to contribution, non-coders, or not quite comfortable jumping in alone.

The first two workshops are scheduled this Friday December 4 at 9 and 11 AM PST. There will be a short demo and talk component with LOTS of time scheduled for Q&A. Bring your questions! If you cannot attend live, never fear! These will be recorded and we will have those recordings available for those that would like them. If you have questions you’d like answered during the live event, you can leave a reply to this forum post or send me a DM.

First up from 9-10 AM PST, AmyJune will be talking about non-code contributions (beyond documentation) in Drupal. Check out her description below and join us on Friday at this link (no registration necessary).

The Drupal Community is diverse, not everyone is a senior developer who can give back in the form of code. Code is very important and so are all the other parts. Discover how to contribute to the project beyond code. Event organizing, knowledge sharing, promoting the platform, and translations and more.

The second workshop from 11 AM to 12 PM PST covers Drupal Issue Queue 101. The workshop description is posted below. Join us Friday at 11 AM PST using this link (no registration necessary).

Drupal thrives on community contributions in the form of patches and documentation to both contributed modules and core. How does one choose an issue? Learn how to navigate the Drupal issue queue, use advanced search, and more.
